Manly Men --- Eugen Sandow. :)

Lived from 1867 until 1925.

It has to be pointed out that steroids were not invented/discovered until 1935, a full 10 years after the death of Sandow. What's interesting too ( just an observation) no body piercings, no tattoos, no body modifications, no plastic surgery, nor implants, as they didn't exist yet. So besides fantastic genetics and a good diet, his physique was based all on...work :)

  1. That's an interesting 'shield' covering his penis. Almost looks like the head of an elephant.....without the trunk.

    1. I think we all struggle with wanting to take the lazy way out...it's a constant battle, more so for some than others.

  4. Just an observation on your observation, when I was a kid it was uncommon to see women with pierced ears and if a man had a tattoo odds were he had been in the military (there wasn't anyone in my universe back then who wasn't a woman or a man except maybe nuns). It's nice to see you blogging again.

  5. Yes indeed, pretty much the *only* people with tattoos were military, bikers, convicts and...that's about it. And like you said, pierced ears on women, and basically nothing and no one else. Conformity was a big thing in society...and now the rarity is someone, anyone, *without* tattoos or pierced body parts...almost the opposite. Anyway, that is my observation on your observation about my observation. :)

    1. If you ever observed me you would notice I have no modifications. All 1957 OEM.

  6. I imagine his apparently short stature also helped with building his physique, that and a lot of exercise/physical labour.

My mum still recalls how her mother used to say that only gypsies had their ears pierced. Glad times have changed.

    1. Short? I think his height then, is still the average...so for that era it might have been above? Not sure. And regarding piercings, I probably misspoke. I think men from other cultures probably had a variety of body art, tats, pierced body parts, modifications, etc...from way back when, but it obviously was not common in the "West". That white Christian puritanical stuff and all...gotta fit in, not stand out, conform, be bland, yeah, that would have been boring and no good. :)
