In theory, I am all for this. However, I'm not sure it will ever get enough traction to matter much. I wish it would, I really do, just to break the stranglehold the GOP and the Dems have on us, on our entire country, on our institutions, on the campaign donation system, on the courts, schools, laws, medical care, environmental issues and every other aspect of our lives. And to be honest, because of the influence the USA has on so much of the rest of the world, our toxic stupidity has a detrimental impact on the billions of other people, animals, literally on the entire planet itself. It's not a secret that I am not a fan of some of what the Dems do, and have had zero use for any Republican politician since the year 2000, and not much use for most of them prior to that. So to that end, yeah, sure, 3rd party...let's go. :)
However, we've had quite a few poltical parties in the USA since the "beginning" of this Republic, and technically speaking, still do currently. So again, kudos for the effort on the new party, and it is indeed interesting, but they have a long way to go before becoming viable.
There are over 420 registered political parties in the United States of America, with many different blends of political viewpoints. However, there are only two nationally recognized political parties, the Republicans and Democrats.

While we're at it, we really, really, really need to enforce separation of church and state. These fucking freaks should *not* be listened to, by anyone, ever. Not in the political realm, and not even in the religious one, bunch of charlatans and heretics. Notice, the article below is about "fundamentalists" and not about average religious people. Yes indeed Poppet, things are a bit challenging at the moment. I'm so glad you people rid yourselves of one issue, the Boris problem, but yes, we have major issues and it's not looking good for the moment. Still, I am an optimist and think things will improve. As to a makeover...me? I don't even do makeovers...on myself, lol. :)

I agree about having a competitive third party…..but believe for it to be worthy of our support it needs to come up from the grass roots. Current politicians from either party starting a third party, in my opinion will start from a position of corruption….seeking power and riches….not for the people….
And the separation of church and state….I think in some case we have gone overboard and beyond rational thought….and of course we also have nut cases as you point out….I guess the privilege of living in a democratic republic….some downsides….
Love the new depictions of the Statue of Liberty…..and really enjoyed the article about farming….I am an advocate….a strong and active advocate for small businesses of any kind(yours included)….and enjoy seeing the success.

You make a valid point about whomever starts a political party and the potential for corruption being high, but maybe at the same time regardless of who starts it, if people don't pay attention, shady people will find their way in eventually no matter what. I mean, the GOP used to be a good party with a good ideology, but the people that run it no longer follow that ideology and so it's now a mess. Same with the Dems in many ways as well. I know I'm an idealist, but I just want sensible rational people in the middle to work for us, the voters, and not extremists from the left or right. Anyway, thanks for the comments. :)

ReplyDeleteAnother perspective on the situation in our country, if you don’t mind. What is happening in our country is mild compared to much of our history. There has always been controversy between political beliefs, and new ideas and change. The Founders tried to make certain that change was slowly adopted, in order for minority perspectives to be protected…..while many may lament the rate of change, I believe there was much wisdom by the founders to allow for consensus building before change can occur without violence and discord…
This doesn’t make one side more right and just than another….the idea is supposed to be about compromise and collaboration….not necessarily for the best solution….but one that is acceptable and works.
We are a strong and resilient country….and many ways now in the best of times…heck we beat the British twice for Independence…survived a devastating civil war….survived a terrible depression…twice saved the world from tyranny….and yes have been divided as much as this many times…I share your optimism….we are truly a United people when push comes to shove….the damn media just exploits situations every time it can…we will be fine going forward….will work out solutions to all of the problems…in spite of all the politicians from both sides….sorry I can’t cut any slack for the Democratic Party…or the Republicans as well….can count on 1 hand the politicians I have respect for from the last 20+ years.
