Election Season.

Ah yes.....its nearly election time again and once more we are inundated with flyers, robo-calls, ads, TV commercials, mailings, e-mail spam, it just goes on and on and on. And what also goes on is the dumbing down of America and a scary percent of our voters. Any old story, line, snippet, sound bite is enough to convince some to vote for a particular candidate. So I thought I would find some quotes from people that are smarter than I'll ever be as an example of how things used to be, and of how some people think or used to think.

“Mark my word, if and when these preachers get control of the [Republican] party, and they're sure trying to do so, it's going to be a terrible damn problem. Frankly, these people frighten me. Politics and governing demand compromise. But these Christians believe they are acting in the name of God, so they can't and won't compromise. I know, I've tried to deal with them.”
~Barry Goldwater

"“As Mankind becomes more liberal, they will be more apt to allow that all those who conduct themselves as worthy members of the community are equally entitled to the protections of civil government. I hope ever to see America among the foremost nations of justice and liberality.”"
 ~George Washington

"There is a cult of ignorance in the Unites States, and there has always been.
The strain of anti-intellectualism has been a constant thread winding its way
through our political and cultural life, nurtured by the false notion that
democracy means that my ignorance is just as good as your knowledge."
 ~ Issac Asimov
