A Dominant Woman - An Inspiration To Me. (Not one of my "normal" posts.)
In Northern New Mexico there is a rural area (name withheld for privacy, I threw "purple shade" on her face, and will call her only "C") that for eons has been home to Native Americans and for the last few hundred years, descendants of Spain. Obviously over the years many people intermingled, dated, some of them married and reproduced.
This story is about "C."
She's mixed blood. She's pushing 90. She raised 8 kids (after her husband disappeared) mostly sons, all handsome and affable guys, brown skinned, easy to laugh, polite, respectful, muscular, hard working, several of them were state wrestling champions (or near to it) and one made it to the Olympic trials for wrestling years ago, but got hurt in the early stages and had to pull out.
She ran a small local business (only a few hundred people live in that area) plus has some acres where they grow chili, beans, potatoes, squash, various vegetables and have a small orchard. Mixed in with this are a few pigs, some chickens, the usual sorts of livestock one can expect in that type of setting, and the standard issue of random dogs and cats that wander in an out, and she feeds all strays, both the four legged variety and the human kind....no matter what. :)
She's one of the most amazing women I've even known. She's a fantastic weaver and has supplemented her income by selling rugs that she wove for decades. She fought for water rights with those that ran the "zanja de irrigación" (irrigation ditches to water fields) was involved many, many years ago when the Electric Cooperative was still trying to get power to some areas, has advocated for the impoverished, kids, the elderly her whole life.
She's never cared about wealth or material possessions beyond what's needed to survive. Its important to her that she's "one with the world", the land, the sky, her ancestors (Navajo and Spanish) going back centuries who also were weavers, famers, basically just honest people trying to survive. She spends her time with her kids, grandkids, great grandkids, her neighbors and in her weaving room and with her animals.
I go see her and she warms up tortillas on an old cast iron wood stove, coffee pot boiling on top. We have tortillas with eggs, beans, chili, all fresh from her own land. She's the wisest woman I've ever known. I want to emulate so much of what she's accomplished, and her nature in life. How she cares for the disadvantaged and downtrodden. Those without a voice, without power...she has no fear, of anything or anyone other than spending a lifetime of doing nothing good for others or the planet. That serenity that emanates from her is just so peaceful, so calming. Its just what I want. Being sexually dominant in the bedroom is fantastic. Being able to use that "dominance" to affect positive change...that's even better. :)
