Computer - Geek - Tech - Nerd Question...Already Answered. PSA

(I had a computer problem. I posted the following on Fetlife asking for ahelp. Below is my original post, followed by the message thread with the guy who helped. As there is good advice its a PSA.)  :)

Is it considered rude to call people "nerds"? I mean, a long time ago it was an insult from the "jocks". But now, the nerds own computer companies and write apps and make billions, and the jocks work for them. :)

Yesterday I had my PC on and went to forage for food. When I came back the monitor would not "wake up". So after some time I drug out an older PC from the closet and hooked it up to the "same" monitor using the "same" power cord and it works just fine...which I am using to type out this fascinatingly enthralling missive. :)

So a bit ago I rehooked up the "new" PC (its a couple years old) using once again the "same" monitor and cord and....nothing. Like an asexual cuckold without Viagra...nothing. The light comes on, the screen will flash the brand name or something, then some sort of message about not having a connection and....zilch. Nothing....like a limp dicked cuckold...no action, no power, no juice, nothing for Vanessa to "use".

As I live in a smallish area and can't really take my PC down to the local repair shop, due to the enormous quantity of homemade porn on it, would by chance anyone have a suggestion as to how to fix this issue? If so, it would be appreciated. Getting tech support from regular online sources is lame because no matter what you write out, about 99% of the time...the cretins will tell you to....update your browser. :)

Hi I'm K. I saw your post, and I might be able to help. I'm going to skip the part of asking if "nerd" is a rude term.

The current PC you mentioned, the one that wouldn't "wake up" the monitor, is it a laptop, or a boxy tower unit? Same question for the one that did work.

We can call them PC-A and PC-B. PC-A being the not working one. Did you just swap in PC-B, same cords, same everything except for the unit itself?

Both are tower PC's.

That's good. It eliminates that cord and monitor as issues, and now we know that it's happening because of PC-A. Depending on how it's setup, 1 of 2 things has happened:

1 - while your computer was idle, it decided to install an update the screwed up your video settings. While annoying, a hard reset (power plug pulled from the back, wait 10 sec, plug it back in and power on) will usually fix it. This isn't unheard of, and I've had updates reset things before.

2a - Video card / chipset issue. Some systems use a stand alone video processing card, usually for mid to high end gaming systems, or for rendering video or 3D drawings (like for architects and such). If that's the case, then the card could have some loose and just needs to be pushed back in (this is called 'reseating').

2b - A small power surge could have fried your video card / video chipset. This isn't likely if your stuff is plugged into a surge protector, but it's possible.

If you want to text me a picture of the back of the machine so that I can see the layout of all the ports and plugs, then I can tell you if you have a standalone video card or not.

I totally understand. I used to work a corporate help desk for stuff like this, and it always seemed like some smart ass manager had some "useful" advice. Take your time, and don't worry. Most likely this will end up being something fairly simple in its cause and solution.

Okay, I plugged the cord back in, turned it on, it flashed that grey screen with a error message, I saw the word "Processor" and then it says hit escape key. Of course they give you one second to do that, so I missed it. Anyway, the screen turned blue, then the background page came on but with no login window. So, I turned it off at the button again, started it again and it went to the background. I was hitting escape key prior to that but it didn't matter. Getting two photos ready now..

Ok, that's odd. If you got to the login screen there, then things should be back to normal. But there isnt a login prompt.

So, you definitely don't have a standalone video card. Yours is part of the computer main board. It's an embedded video card. It's pretty common. Do you have your mouse or keyboard plugged in?

If windows managed to load to the point that it's showing the pre-login screen, then the system was most likely trying to update. Automatic updates seem to always fuck things up. The happen just because your computer sees you're not doing anything and it just starts to run.

I do not have mouse and keyboard plugged into the malfunctioning one at this moment.

Plug in your keyboard and see if you press any keys you can get the login prompt to pop up. Mine comes up with just the walpaper and no login box also, and I have to hit a key to bring up the login box.

I'm happy to help. Nothing sucks worse than needing a working computer and having it just sit there. I mean you know it's not "actually" laughing at you, but even still, it does feel like somebody is fucking with you somewhere. Have a great night :)

YouTube Increasing Censorship on "Nudity"...

 

 

This is bizarre. The e-mail below popped up in my box last night. It alludes to an "appeal" request I supposedly submitted over their marking the video above as "adult". The thing is, I don't even recall submitting an appeal, but may have, and if I did, it would have been years ago (good job on the timely reply YouTube, lol). It says I loaded the video in 2017, so about 5 years ago. I pay no attention to my so called YouTube channel, as you can tell, ergo why there are such paltry numbers of views.  :)  

Here's the thing, should anyone care to watch it, what are they opposed to? There is no booty sex, there is no booty. In fact the one photo of my backside, I'm wearing panties, and I put my URL and my name across the top of my butt, to "block" anything salacious. The video is static photos of...furniture. That's it. 

Any live video of the beach, swimming, track, the Olympics, dancers, you name it, has hot chicks in thongs...so by comparison, my little video is G-Rated. For example, I searched track chicks butts on YouTube and got this:

I don't understand, and never will, this urge some people have to be so public about their private lives. Yes, I know, I have books, blogs, movies, websites and so on, but the majority of photos and video of me are where I am either wearing a wig and sunglasses, or a mask, (face mask, eye mask, not of the Covid variety) so the possibility of anyone recognizing me in public is just about impossible. I like my privacy and want to be left alone. Celebrity, being recognized, publicity...not something I ever wanted. 

But hey, to each her own. I understand that some people simply do not care, but I would hate some stranger walking up to me in the store, the gym, my doctors office or wherever and knowing who I am from the Internet. And for me, this applies even more so for those people that have kids, which I don't, but that seems unfair to me to have a situation where other kids will eventually know who "Mom and Dad" are, what they do in private, and then post it online or in mainstream media. I mean, being 7 or 10 years old and having kids at school calling your mother and father cuckold sex freaks....not good. Having said that little rant, it is interesting seeing cuckoldry in semi-mainsteam print.  :)

I like Demo, I really do. Her voice is fantastic, her music is...meh, whatever, but her vocal talent is indisputable. And I like her spirit. But, no surprise here, I am not a fan of the forced pronoun police...and here's a good example of why. People can be fluid. They can change their minds. So, someone decides one week or month they want to go with "their/they/them" and anyone that fails to jump on board gets screamed at and called "transphobic" and then a week later...they're back to "she/her".

Here's why I hate making home videos, for others to see, and sometimes photos as well. I like making home movies where I can just turn the camera on, do whatever I'm doing, not worry about editing, lighting, sound, background, angles, sure, that's fun. But once you start having to be concerned about all those details, the fun goes out the window and it's like a "job". So with this little clip, we were trying to figure out how to get the correct zoom distance, and I sometimes extract stills from the video so that's a concern...no fun. But once that's done with, and I don't care about video quality anymore...grinding on his face...which is fantastic, lol.  :)

To save you time, (unless you want to watch the videos) a brief overview: Its well known that I am a major proponent of egalitarianism in our world. For some, they view that ideology as being on par with feminism, however I do not and a couple of examples are in this post.  

In the first video we have Tayla Harris, who is obviously a very talented athlete from Australia, who  does football and boxing or something. The point of my mentioning her is the hoopla controversy over the video below, and the first photo. She was kicking a ball (and who amongst us doesn't like ball kicking, um?) and a photographer snapped a photo with her in mid kick, legs splayed, crotch out for the world to see. As is typical and to be expected, social media went nuts, guys making lewd, graphic, lascivious sexual comments. So some website, or their local news site, whomever, whatever, removed the photo and then caught even more flack for doing so, so they placed the photo back up. Her claim in interviews is that she was "sexually abused" on social media.

In the BBC clip below on misogyny, starting at roughly the 11:20 mark, we have some young social justice warrior (Warrioratrix?) in a scary unlucid rant, implying that men that whistle, wolf whistle, or make sexual comments to random women on the street, should have a police report filed on them, and then be tracked for the rest of their lives, because, according to her, they may show a propensity to...become rapists. 

According to the feminist manifesto, we are fighting for equality. Equality does not mean seeking favored status or special protection based solely on the fact that we have an innie and not an outie. Equality means having all the opportunities that men have as far as sports, voting, education, careers, autonomy, business and land ownership etc., and it also means being subjected to the same negative things that happen in life, like dickhead bosses, jobs that suck, paying taxes, going bankrupt, and having to tolerate rude comments made by horndogs with no class. 

You, we, me, I, us, humans...do not have a right to not be offended. I might be offended by comments guys have hurled out of passing car windows at me, or not, maybe I took it as a clumsy compliment. I might be offended by your clothes, or you may be with mine. I might be offended by your religion, politics, dietary choices, how you decorate your house or your yard, your car, your bumper-stickers and a myriad of other things...and its my right to be offended. However, it is not my right to force you to change any or all of the examples I mentioned above. People are offensive. Life is offensive. But I totally reject any agenda where we are treated as equals when it suits us, but want extra laws to protect us from anything we deem rude or obnoxious. That's not empowering us...that's treating us like delicate flowers, or adolescents, or helpless babies that are not worthy of equality, but need special rules, laws and protection to enable us to make it through life. In other words, it defeats the whole agenda, purpose and concept of being treated as...equal. 

  

For those women that want the benefits of equality but none of the responsibility...
